MONEY TALKS - A basic guide to the wild ride that is the stock market

After the stock market had its worst day since Sept. 11 last Tuesday, I was asked if I could explain the stock market. This is a fool's errand. Some people have been studying the market for years and still can't figure it out. I am no expert, and all I can offer is a very basic understanding, but here goes.
