VFW ladies auxiliary meeting

This meeting will take place at 7 p.m. today at the VFW, 140 Milan Ave., Norwalk. The program will involve recommendations on the "Voice of Democracy Student."

The district meeting will be at 10 a.m. March 10 at the American Legion in Norwalk following the regular meeting at 9.

Local donations needed

The Salvation Army, 55 Whittlesey Ave., Norwalk, is looking for donations of prepared desserts for the last five working days of the month. Cookies, pies and cakes are needed. Ninety-five percent of pastries were donated by Tops until they went out of business last fall, it has put a strain on the cook to prepare the meal as well as dessert. This location serves between 50 and 70 meals per day. If you can help call Deb at (419) 668-4090.

This location is always looking for craft items for youth groups and Bible School. Glue, beads, felt squares, plastic eyes, yarn, etc.

The army is also looking for good used and new items for the rummage sale March 23 and 24.

Gardening classes

The public is invited to audit a master gardener class on lawncare featuring experienced lawncare professional David May. This class will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in room A in the basement of Huron County Administration Building, 180 Ave., Norwalk. A $10 fee at the door covers speaker mileage and refreshments. A master gardener class on herbaceous ornamentals with a Power Point presentation by Lucas County horticulturist, Becky Mcann will be from 6 to 9 p.m. March 12 in room A of Huron County administration building on Milan Ave., Norwalk. Local cooking classes

MILAN - The Culinary Vegetable Institute 2007 bounty of the season cooking classes, impromptu dinner cooking class will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. April 16 with Chef David Weigandt of Refined American Cuisine in Sidney. Learning how to cook fine food is not nearly as hard as some people think believe. Let Chef David Weigandt show you how to cook an "Impromptu" dinner that is simple yet elegant. Cost: $55 for members, $70 for non-members.

An Italian cooking class and book signing will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 13 with Chef Isabella Nicoletti Paesano's in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Chef Isabella Nicoletti will show you how to create authentic, rustic dishes from her home in the Venento region of Italy, with a unique flair and flavor. Cost: $55 for members, $70 for non-members.

Local spaghetti benefit

NEW LONDON - This benefit for the Knott family will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 10 at New London High School. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children. The event will include a 50/50 drawing and many raffles. For details call (419) 929-4095.

Christian Singles

SANDUSKY - This group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Sandusky Y.M.C.A. for the program "Finding Someone Who Cares" by speaker John Adams. The evening's afterglow will be at Fazoli's.

Sandusky Ski Club

SANDUSKY - This group will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the American Legion, 3615 Hayes Ave., Sandusky. Call (419) 797-2311 for details.

The club will also meet at 7:30 p.m. March 19 at the same location. The club will celebrate its 45th anniversary April 14. Reservations can be made now.

The club will celebrate March birthdays at 6:30 p.m. March 22 at the Red Lobster restaurant, U.S. 250, Sandusky.

Firelands Computer Club

This group will meet Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 Firelands Blvd., Norwalk.

Social time and refreshments will be at 6:40 p.m. with time to visit before the main meeting which runs from 7 to 8:30.
