Sen. Rob Portman reportedly exploring 2016 White House run

First-term senator has long had ambitions for national office.

Sen. Rob Portman is being urged to form a presidential exploratory committee as the first step in running for the White House in 2016, but the Ohio Republican will not make a decision until after the November elections.

An exploratory committee would allow Portman to raise money to pay for travel and other expenses to states such as New Hampshire and Iowa, which will hold the first presidential contests of 2016.

Although Portman and his aides say he is focused on running for re-election in 2016, the first-term senator has long had ambitions for national office.

Portman campaigned in New Hampshire on Tuesday on behalf of Republican Scott Brown, who is challenging Sen. Jean Shaheen, D-N.H. But Portman also made a separate appearance earlier in the day in Manchester, N.H., fueling intense speculation that he plans to run for president.

Although a source close to Portman stressed that the senator has not officially decided to run for the White House or even form an exploratory committee, forming one is the first major move made by presidential candidates in both parties.

Portman also is a regular on cable-TV shows and is the chief fundraiser for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. If Republicans seize control of the Senate in November, Portman will receive much of the credit because of the millions of dollars he has raised on behalf of GOP candidates.

not really on topic but a GREAT Read

After finally choosing to view the barbaric, on-camera beheading by ISIS of freelance war correspondent James Foley, I have been left with a level of rage known only to those of us who have sacrificed unspeakable offerings on the altar of world peace. "America has always been exceptional. And she will be again.but You, Mr. President, are a bump in our road".

spot on

When are people going to stop having politics as being the first thought that pops into their head? When are people going to realize that all politicians care about is making the opposite party look bad? I guarantee that if it were a republican president someone would have provided a link to an article someone wrote about how that republican president screwed something up. It has to start somewhere it has to start sometime. What better place than here? What better time than now? We need to somehow do away with political parties.

Spot on !!!!

We can all play the Political game of Democrat vs Republican all night long, but if we were to take all of that away we are left with the fact that people are being slaughtered, and what does the World do about it???It should not be the USA's responsibility, or Russia's responsibility, or any particular nation, in fact that is the old way of thinking that has gotten us to where we are today. we all know where the problem lies, , and it has nothing to do with Red states or Blue states and hopefully nothing to do with Black Ethnicity or Caucasian Ethnicity... there are a band of radicals that are challenging our Nation.. I would like to remind People that everyone has their own tactics. If you remember George W Plan after 9-11 was to go back to work.. act "normal" or they win" so that is what we all tried to do.. now we are being challenged again.. we see our President playing golf and smiling.. maybe it is strategy on his part maybe if he looked defeated, they win? it seems that a snake looks calm before it strikes back, so does a cat and a loin maybe a President as well???

Attention: Read carefully. I will bet the 1rst person to accept the challenge a free $100.00 gift certificate to Mia Famiglias that if Portman runs he will lose. (This bet is only to the 1srt person that accepts it)
