A former Reynoldsburg schools math teacher was sentenced to prison Friday, after he pleaded guilty to sex charges involving a 15-year-old girl.
Fairfield County Common Pleas Judge Richard E. Berens sentenced Ryan D. Collopy to four years in prison, which he then suspended for one year in prison and five years of probation, a court spokesman said.
Collopy, 33, of Reynoldsburg, was convicted and sentenced after he pleaded guilty Friday to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.
The judge ordered Collopy to obtain sex-offender counseling, and classified him as a Tier II sex offender. The designation requires him to register as a sex offender with the county sheriff for at least 25 years, and show up for verification every six months.
Collopy was indicted in March. The activities with the 15-year-old, who was not a student in the Reynoldsburg district, occurred in April and May of 2013, authorities said.
Collopy resigned in April 2013 while Reynoldsburg district officials were investigating student complaints that he had engaged in a video chat with a girlfriend while in class.
Collopy taught math at Reynoldsburg High School from 2005 to 2010 and at Waggoner Road Junior High School from 2010 to April 2013. He was paid $55,375 annually, according to district spokeswoman Tricia Moore.
