A Fremont woman who is serving a prison term for a probation violation was convicted Tuesday of selling heroin to a confidential informant.

Ashley N. Wood, 23, pleaded guilty to one count of trafficking in heroin. The conviction is for an Aug. 30 controlled drug buy. Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Woodruff said Wood sold .06 grams of heroin to a confidential informant in the vicinity of Norwalk Catholic School and Whitney Field.

As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dismissed one count each of trafficking in heroin in connection with an Aug. 31 incident and trafficking in a counterfeit controlled substance stemming from a Sept. 3 offense.

Wood said she is incarcerated currently and has a recent domestic violence conviction, but isn't under any other supervision. According to prison records, she was started serving a 13-month sentence at the Northeast Pre-Release Center on Oct. 9. The domestic violence conviction is through Lorain County.

The defendant will be sentenced Oct. 1 on the heroin case. Wood is eligible for a prison sentence of six to 18 months due to her prior felony conviction.

"Wood is eligible for a prison sentence . . . "

It is Judge Conway's court. She will get a slap on the wrist and maybe 6 months of "special secret intense" probation.
