Western Reserve grad gets call to the big leagues

Andrew Chafin has been promoted by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The left-hander pitcher, who is a Western Reserve graduate, has split time with Triple A Reno and Double A Mobile this season.

Overall, he went 8-6 with a 3.96 ERA.

In 23 starts, Chafin has pitched 131.2 innings, allowing 67 runs (58 earned) on 142 hits with 51 walks and 102 strikeouts.

Chafin, the 43rd overall draft choice in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Kent State, last pitched Monday night.

He went four innings, giving up a run on two hits with four walks and five strikeouts.

Chafin also helped pitch Sandusky American Legion Post 83 to its first-ever state championship in the summer of 2008.

The Diamondbacks are slated to play in Cleveland at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
