A Norwalk man pleaded innocent this morning to biting the ear of a Huron County Jail inmate.

Jameel A. Jawaad, 43, of 185 W. Main St., Apt. 1, is scheduled to go to trial June 24 in Huron County Common Pleas Court on felonious assault. Judge Jim Conway set a $40,000 bond.

Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Woodruff said the victim had to get stitches and the appropriate shots at Fisher-Titus Medical Center after the April 2 incident. He declined to comment on what caused the attack, saying: "I'm not sure what the beef was."

Norwalk police officers sent Jawaad to the jail March 22 on one charge each of assault and unlawful restraint. Jawaad has been in custody since that time.
