Political ads for same-sex marriage return to TV

Ads on the marriage issue have not been on Ohio TV screens since 2004.

Same-sex marriage is back on TV advertising in Ohio for the first time in a decade.

Why Marriage Matters Ohio, a statewide coalition advocating to make same-sex marriages legal, today released an ad that will run in various cities around the state from Wednesday though Aug. 6. The ad features two elderly Ohio men, Henry Hawley and George Vassos of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, who were married last fall in New York after spending 50 years together as a couple.

The ad can be seen on YouTube.

Ads on the marriage issue have not been on Ohio TV screens since 2004 when voters approved a constitutional amendment limiting marriage to one man and one woman. The battles since then have been in the courtroom not the ballot box.

“Attitudes in Ohio and across the country are changing fast as communities are coming together to have very serious conversations about the meaning of family, fairness and the future,” Michael Premo, campaign manager for Why Marriage Matters Ohio, said in a statement.

The timing of the ad is significant because a legal showdown on the marriage issue will take place Aug. 6 in the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. On that date, a three-judge appeals court panel will hear five cases from Ohio and surrounding states about the same-sex marriage issue.

In the year since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a New York case for same-sex marriage, every federal court ruling in the country without exception has sided with same-sex marriage.

you mean the one your mom got lost on the way to?

The attitudes across America are not changing, just a few people trying to push an agenda that was voted no on already! We voted on this already and it part of our constitution. So stop trying to push an agenda we voted NO on on already!!!!

I Can Read

Just because you vote on something and it wins, it still has to be able to hold up under the United States constitution. The Supreme Court will eventually make the final decision on this and put it to rest for good! The United States constitution trumps the states constitutions everytime!!!!

Foodforthought, your username is quite contradictory considering how egocentric and naive you are. Why don't you take your own advice and have some of this food for thought: stop using the Reflector comment section as your personal diary. YOU'RE EMBARRASSING YOURSELF, SIR.

Wow that was gay. Guess the shoe fits for you

Foodfor...I hate to wake you up out of your coma... and make you face reality....BUT if you were to read the article it clearly says.....“Attitudes in Ohio and across the country are changing fast as communities are coming together to have very serious conversations about the meaning of family, fairness and the future,” Michael Premo, campaign manager for Why Marriage Matters Ohio, said in a statement. then it also says........In the year since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in a New York case for same-sex marriage, every federal court ruling in the country without exception has sided with same-sex marriage...... so you see.. it does not matter what I think .... and it certainly doesn't matter what kind of lies you choose to put out there.. MOST people are smart enough to read on their own, at the very least they will read the story that you are commenting FALSELY on and see that you are LYING about your claims.....you know, Jusyt because you are stupid, doesn't mean everyone is....lololol

freespeech1

swissy says " Jusyt because you are stupid" if your going to call someone stupid, at least proofread your spelling errors.

A states' rights 10th Amend. issue.

If Utah wants to legalize polygamy - let 'em.

If NY wants to legalize retroactive abortions - let 'em.

GLBT "rights" ain't in the U.S. Constitution.

That's why our founders provided for amendments.

TrollingMotors

All men are created equal, regardless of sexual preference.

Pretty difficult for cavemen to understand but thats the way it is.

Re: "All men are created equal,"

From the Declaration of Independence, not the U.S. Constitution.
