Chenango Road crisis situation comes up empty

Man escapes from house

Authorities continue to search for a 44-year-old Chenango Road man who reportedly assaulted his wife, destroyed her cell phone and greeted a sheriff's deputy with three guns.

Jasen Kruki's wife called the Huron County Sheriff's Office for assistance Friday evening after her husband allegedly pushed and kicked her, injuring her shoulder. When the victim told Kruki about contacting the sheriff, he destroyed her cell phone.

After Sgt. Todd Corbin arrived at the home, Kruki had a sidearm pistol and two long guns with him on the porch. Kruki reportedly told Corbin, "You have no business being here. Get off my property."

Corbin couldn't get close enough to Kruki "because he was so heavily armed," Detective. Richard Larson said.

Kruki immediately picked up his weapons, holstered his sidearm and went back into his house. At some point, he let his dog loose, a German shepherd mix breed, Larson said.

Corbin retreated to his cruiser, standing behind the door for cover and called for backup. Meanwhile, the sergeant located the victim, the couple's teenage son and the victim's mother in a bean field and told them to leave the area because it was not safe.

At this point -- while the house's three entrances were unsecured -- officials suspect Kruki escaped. But, they had no idea of that until about eight hours later, when the Mansfield Police Department's SWAT team searched the house and found it empty.

Acting in the crisis situation, several deputies and other surrounding departments were called in for help, including Lorain County Sheriff's Office, New London Police, Willard Police, Ontario Police and New London Fire Department.

"Everything escalated pretty quick," Larson said. "We are really appreciative of all the other agencies.

This obviously wasn't that big of a crisis for two reasons. First, Norwalk did not dispatch it's Special Response Optimus Prime vehicle. Second, there are zero pictures of Dane Howard with this story. I judge my threat levels on how many Great Dane pics are with the story.

I literally was laughing out loud to this! Love it

What an opportunity to use the "Super Transporter". What's the sense in having a multi-purpose troop carrying, explosion proof SWAT vehicle if you can't even pull it out when some dude has a rifle in his hands?....Oh, it happened outside of city limits. Never mind.

JakeMac25

You know what else is out of city limits? The Lorain County Sheriff's Office, the New London Police department, the Willard Police Department, the Ontario Police and SWAT vehicle and New London Fire Department. The NPD Super SWAT transporter of all that is just and righteous should have been brought it. At least for a picture or two.

earlduck

I'm disappointed,I would liked to have seen the Norwalk cammandos in action.betcha his a$$ would be in jail now

Stonybaby

The super swat transporter a waste of tax payers money. Makes the chief feel good. Four wheel drive BS.

I Can Read

It was free, not sure how that is a waste of taxpayer money?

fuel, oil, filters, tires..

Training....

I Can Read

I can't be sure but I think it had tires on it when the city got it, not sure if it had oil or the filters in it either. As for the gas, if they don't use it, then it won't require much diesel fuel.

and when it comes time to REPLACE tires, motor oil, brakes, and other parts that wear? kinda like getting a free puppy. somebody still has to buy the food..

ISPSP

Yep! I had a Great Dane rescue many many moons ago. That "free" Great Dane cost way more in the long run than the purchase price and subsequent care of my AKC registered Great Dane

It's not going to be general maintenance on the transporter that's going to be costly. I think we could probably all agree the thing is going to spend 99% of the time just filling a parking space. I for one would like to know how much the city is going to be shelling out for insurance? I'm sure that thing could do some liable damage.

true. regardless of purchase price, or lack thereof, it's going to cost money. it is wasteful and not needed..

Stonybaby

The paint, radio system, modifications for a swat mobile, tires the vehicle was free. The mods cost as well as gas and a four wheel drive upkeep schedule, liability insurance. Our constitution specifically protects us from our military. Not in Norwalk. Shouldn't we teach our children to go to police when you need help not run from police out of fear ? Swat teams with automatic weapons in military transports were probably not the images our founding fathers or any reasonable person has in mind for America. I hope that is not our future.
it ain't free.

ladydye_5

YOU are the ones teaching your children to be scared of the military and the police. Personally my children grew up around the military and the police. They are not scared of either. Children learn what ADULTS teach them. They listen to what they hear you all talking about. Most kids would be excited to climb in that personnel carrier and see what is in it. At least until they heard adults talking about all the "horrible" things it represents.

shovelhead

Are you serious? Children better be learning how to protect themselves from over zealous police. The place for excited kids to climb around on military equipment is at an Army base on field day, not down behind the bank in Jerkwater, USA. How scared will you're "children" be when this thing comes smashing into the yard when someone makes a phone call because they "thought" they saw something. It is "horrible". And an unnecessary waste.

ladydye_5

I think your tinfoil is too tight.

shovelhead

Ok. I totally understand now. Norwalk, Ohio DOES need an Army troop transport vehicle capable of withstanding heavy fire and roadside bombs. Just as long as the call comes from inside the city limits. Jeez, I almost thought I was crazy for a minute there.

RIGHT ON! I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to get your adrenaline pumping when blasting some killer tunes. I vote for AC/DC.

m...w...k

I can read-since it's clear you're able, If you were to read the article, they spent thousands getting the army tank ready for use, $4,000 I believe it said.

Kilroy

Your Federal Taxes bought it, then the military gave them away. Nothing is free. Unless you don't pay taxes.

This guy has a history of assaulting others. He injured my son when he wax 22 and my son was only 14. Time to lock this one up For a long time before he kills someone.

Ehovemom

Any update on the guy with a gun who assaulted someone on Route 20 next to Rural King?

newsreader

It's obvious, Howard still holds a grudge. NPD could have been there quicker than the other agencies named. That's on him.

Of course their new ride would have been a photo opportunity and Howard know this. Once he figures out to get one of his own, it will be everywhere.
Just a prediction.

Dusty

So, I take it the Huron County Sheriff no longer has a SWAT team, Anyone know why it was disbaned and what was done with the equipment that our tax dollars paid for?

newsreader

Howard tried to fire Corbin for a missing automatic weapon. When it was found that one of Howard's boys had it, no discipline was taken against the person. Corbin still got screwed with for standing his ground.

Corbin was the only guy fit enough to attend any type of training that required more then standing around looking cool in the equipment. Howard didn't want Corbin getting any good press so it was easier to disband the team than to have everyone meet a higher standard. Can't have his boys fail you know.

Dusty

So they still have all the equipmet or has it come up missing too? I would think 2-3 well trained guys could have cleared that house way quicker rhan a robot that drops the phone and tips over all the time. For anyone that heard the traffic on this call it wasnt good. Dane set of the command center miles from the location, The SWAT team took forever to get here. Once the robot was deployed it droped the phone (Twice) and even tipped over.

Speak_The_Truth

This guy has history of beating on women and being trouble. Anyone know if they found him yet.
