A Norwalk man is in custody on a sex-related charge after allegedly inappropriately touching a disabled man at a local church festival.

"We received a call at about 9:30 p.m. July 13 in regards to inappropriate sexual contact at the St. Alphonsus Festival on Settlement Road," Huron County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ted Patrick said.

"The complainant advised an older male touched a younger male, who was mentally handicapped, in the restroom at the festival," Patrick said.

Patrick said that night at the festival, the caretaker for the victim confronted the suspect.

"Detective Rich Larson was assigned the case and began investigating," he added.

Larson learned through his investigation when the caretaker confronted the suspect, the suspect made incriminating admissions, according to Patrick.

"Larson then met with the victim and caretaker and obtained information through the interviews," Patrick said. "Larson then interviewed the suspect who made additional admissions that he did, in fact, touch the victim in the restroom."

The victim is 32 years old.

As a result of the investigation, deputies arrested John L. Gfell, 68, of 34 W. Willard Ave.

"Gfell was charged with gross sexual imposition which is a felony of the fourth degree," Patrick said. "He's being held at the jail on a $10,000 bond."
