The mother of an assault victim is alleging her son's attacker, who is accused of having a violent history, trespassed on their property and said the incident was "because of a girl."

A 16-year-old Wakeman boy is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony if committed by an adult. New London Police Sgt. Joe Hicks investigated the June 18 altercation which involved a 15-year-old New London boy.

"They met at school and were best friends," the victim's mother said.

The mother shared with the Reflector what her son and family have been experiencing since the defendant reportedly broke her son's jaw.

"I'm very upset the way this kid seemingly waited for my husband and I to leave the yard to trespass on our property and hurt our son. He attacked our son because of a girl, which is just ridiculous for anyone to do. Then the boy broke our son's jaw, started crying and professing his undying love about this girl who he broke up with a month prior to the attack," the mother said.

"(My son) had to go the emergency room the evening it happened and now sees a specialist weekly. Surgery is still an option, but the surgeon is trying to avoid putting him through that ... if possible," she added.

If the boy has surgery, his jaw would be wired or pinned shut for eight weeks afterwards.

"If he's very careful with his jaw, the two fractures don't shift. He may also lose a tooth, (but we're) not sure yet," the mother said.

The New London woman wants to see the suspect receive some time in a detention facility and "the help he needs."

"To me, this boy needs help. But instead, his parents chose to get him mixed martial arts training. It's his third violent offense and someone needs to get him the help he needs. Our family is in fear that he will come back after our boy, but there's not much we can do except stay by our son's side and help him through this. It is my personal wish that this boy goes to detention and stays there until he's fit for society," the mother said.

The suspect's initial hearing in Huron County Juvenile Court is scheduled for Friday.

"There was no request for detention, so I assume he's at home with his parents," court administrator Chris Mushett said.

According to court documents, the defendant caused serious physical harm when he reportedly punched the victim "multiple times in the face and did break his jaw."

All girls (boys) have cooties.

Windy

They suddenly get cured of "cooties" when they become teenagers.
