A baseball bat-related assault remains under investigation by the Norwalk Police Department.

The suspect, a 17-year-old Willard boy, is charged with felonious assault through Huron County Juvenile Court. If committed by an adult, the charge would be a second-degree felony.

"The offense is alleged to have happened on June 30," court administrator Chris Mushett said.

At 5:22 p.m., dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call about a male victim who reported being assaulted with a baseball bat on East Main Street, according to the report by Officer Zack O'Neil. It's unknown what started the altercation.

"I haven't seen the (police) report, just the complaint," Mushett said.

The victim is 19 years old and at one point lived in Norwalk, he said.

The Huron County Prosecutor's Office filed a complaint July 2. The defendant appeared for a detention hearing the next day.

"He was placed in the Seneca County Youth Center," Mushett said. "They're alleging the kid hit the victim with a baseball bat, causing an open head injury and fractured skull."

Assistant Prosecutor Dina Shenker said police are in the process of gathering information about the incident.

"I think the victim did go to the hospital," she said. "They're still investigating what started it. Very little facts came in initially."

"causing an open head injury and fractured skull." and "I think the victim did go to the hospital,". If not, who has the x-ray vision to see the fracture? Just asking. Hope he is OK, in any event.

The 19 year old was life flighted to Toledo due to not being able to breathe on his own. He is very lucky to be alive and will suffer from this incident for years to come. Whoever conducted this interview with little to no facts needs to get it together. The community needs to know what happend, who was involved and if the situation has been resolved to ensure no one else has to suffer.

So charge his arse as an adult!

so sick of stup...

so who was it? I hope they actually do something to this kid.. I don't understand what goes thru peoples minds that they think it is ok to use a bat.. hammer.. gun.. whatever and cause severe damage and the idiots think that nothing will happen.. time you punks learn there is consequences for their stupid actions...
