An area driver sustained minor cuts and bruises after her vehicle crashed when she served to avoid a deer early Saturday.

Veronica Santiago, 36, of Lorain, was wearing her seat belt during the accident at 1 a.m. on Rome Greenwich Road, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Santiago was southbound when she went off the side of Rome Greenwich. Trooper Jonathan Weasner said the woman hit a ditch, which caused her vehicle to flip. The vehicle overturned, hit a utility pole and landed on its roof.

The woman, who was not transported from the scene, told the trooper she served to avoid a deer, according to the patrol.
