It's been a busy couple of weeks for this Huron County village.

Monroeville council is looking for a new member, the board might have to look for a new police chief and residents will no longer elect the person in charge of finances.

It's been a busy couple of weeks in the village.

Former council member Karen Reer said since she's moved to Norwalk, she was no longer a council member as of June 1. Village officials are looking to replace her. Reer was on council for six and a half years and had a year and a half left. Her replacement will need to fill out her term.

"I enjoyed it immensely," Reer said.

Police Chief Gary Lyons said he's also enjoyed his time at Monroeville, where he's served for three years. He's in the running for the same position in Battle Creek, Mich.

"Professionally I wanted to see, before I got too much older, if I might qualify for a larger police department," the 62-year-old Lyons said. "Battle Creek seemed to be a nice fit."

Really are you ...

Good luck. But if you are following Janesville, they won't be there too long. They can't keep workers up there. Janesville received tax breaks to relocate to Battle Creek, Mich. to hire their felons. Good luck. You will be busy.

truckin

The dedication to a community is just not there anymore by so many..
But then you got a person over there like Bond...and because of politics the town overlooks him for chief..then see what you get...Like Milan... they run for greener pastures.

ladydye_5

At age 62, he won't be Chief any where much longer. Even if he gets the job in Battle Creek, he will retire there soon too. Why bother?

J Cooper

Difference Rose was overly qualified for Milan, Bond not so much, notice no one else as ever took him.

KURTje

Originally Bond's attitude was his enemy. Heard he has changed a little...

Yeah, he was pretty cocky in his early days, and I've heard also that he has mellowed a lil. I still can't help but to think how his attitude will be, if he keeps getting overlooked though.

He's been at Monroeville for a long time. Dedication should give him some kind of reward.

J Cooper

Is it dedication or no where else to go?

JMOP's picture
JMOP

I honestly don't know. I've never heard of him applying for another job, but then again, I'm not in the loop.

My gut tells me dedication. He's a big fish in a little pond.

I_wonder

What qualifications does he really have other being there a long time? Additional training? If he were that qualified he would have moved on or up years ago. As said earlier, is it dedication if you aren't really marketable outside your own agency?

truckin

Not really,
He has a great child and wife with job. (which is probably the best thing for any man and his attitude)
I know mine changed after kids few years back.
Bond was at Edison and a Marine also, and i have read from time to time with all his "additional" training/awards.
Hard on the law in the early years, yes!
But look at so many other troopers, dot, city cops also.
I believe Bond likes root's.
But i believe it is because he will not give favors to political figures.
We all know the gov employee mentality, whether elected or the girl at the dmv. They all seem to feel above and have some sense of entitlement.
Bond would give his mother a ticket for going too fast..
So what!!
he has to think about the public as a whole.

hit the road jack

truckin: You don't even know bond anymore do you?He don't have a wife anymore, hasn't for about a year.
Give his mother a ticket? I dare you to call and ask him the last time he wrote a ticket, even he'd have to do some homework on that one.
He's been in Monroeville because he's got nowhere to go,who wants him? he goes in punches in waits 5 hrs. then goes wherever,he's still pissed because he didn't get chief's job,and he would be the one to retire soon.

hit the road jack

He did change, for the worse,go over there and try to find him at 1 am,you'll have to look hard and then you may catch him napping. he's a big crybaby,if he don't get his way he cries or kicks gravel like a kid, or sue you.

dontcare

Bond has never done anything unless it benefitted him, everyone who has worked with him knows that. No accomplishments, no record of achievement. Don't confuse the inability to get hired somewhere else for dedication. He doesn't live in town, doesn't donate time, does nothing for the community or the department, ask anyone who works with him. I'm sure he will get his hand full of vocal friends to pass a petition and hire a lawyer again and threaten to sue when he is passed over.

I_wonder

He didn't get hired last time for reasons. Has he done anything to improve himself to be a leader of the department or is he just relying on his time there as being enough and entitled?

truckin

@Has never done anything unless it benefited him?
point is???

So Bond serving USMC.. all these years as a law enforcement officer..
are you going to try and convince me that if your call came in thru 911 about a home invader..
he would turn and have someone else respond?
if a co-officer, telling me if while pulling over someone it turned into a fire fight, Bond would duck and run??
BS. not buying it.

I_wonder

Did we read the same post? As for him not doing anything unless it benefited him, has he done anything above and beyond other than having seniority? Self improvement, additional training to prepare for the role of Chief? Serving in the USMC 20 pus years ago has little to do with what he has done during his time with MPD. The USMC may have molded work ethic but how does that play into what a guy has been the last 20 years? There is a lot more involved and no one questioned his courage.

truckin: does joining the Marines as a fantasy(childhood) qualify you for whatever you want to do in life? hell no!

Car54

I love how the Police Chief possibly leaving creates this type of banter. I also love how people that know absolutely nothing about Bond or his qualifications and or training like to spew lies without any consequence for doing so. truckin is the only person that knows him and is fair about his comments the rest rely on rumors, hearsay, or find this as a way for getting back for a ticket or being arrested by him or another law enforcement officer.
Bond is a proud Marine and has been in law enforcement for over 25 years has hundreds of hours in additional training including the Police Executive leadership College and his invitation to attend the FBI National Academy. He is also the Academy Commander for the EHOVE Police Academy.
Unlike some people he found a job he likes and enjoys working in the Monroeville community so he has dedicated himself to that department.

Car54,

Yes, I went on hearsay that he has mellowed out over the years. I've never interacted with him. I grew up in Monroeville, and am going on his attitude when we were at the In & Out on several occasions 20 years ago at the same time.

I have nothing to gain, and he has nothing to lose by my opinion stated. I think it's actually quite sad he's been overlooked all these years. I hope the best for him.

hit the road jack

He didn't mellow out he just got mad because he was passed over when White left and he's just riding the storm out to retire,I'm sure he would cream his jeans if he could kiss @ss enoUgh to get the chief's job and Mike being a good democrat may let his dream come true,I hope not but I have no say in it.

JMOP's picture
JMOP

Democrat or not, Mike White was an excellent chief. Probably the Best Monroeville will ever have.

J Cooper

Is that why he was forced to quit or face charges?

JMOP's picture
JMOP

Say what? Mike White? I thought he quit to train afghan or Iraqi police/forces. There was quite a bit of money involved in doing that.

I will say, Mike was down to earth, and didn't have that superior attitude that some get in that position.

hit the road jack

JMOP, ou got it wrong or should I say I said it wrong, the Mike I was talking about was Mike Adelman not White,I would say White was good too,I didn't say that,I was just saying he may have referred Bond.

I_wonder

You aren't invited to attend the FBI National Academy. You apply and wait for them to have seats for your region.

Car54

WOW...again the ignorance of people I_wonder you talk as if you know something, but you obviously don't. You have to apply to attend the FBI National Academy including recommendations from prior attendees and ranking officer's including the department Chief. You have to meet the qualifications to just send in the application and when that is done they review the application and accept it or deny it. If they accept it you are in the system and wait to see if they select you for attendance. Only 1/2 or 1 percent of all law enforcement officers in this country get selected to attend its an honor..... something I doubt you know anything about at all. What do you do for a living ?? I_wonder, what's your real name so people can comment about your life, work etc. My guess is your an unemployed nobody with nothing better to do than comment about something you know nothing about.

hit the road jack

Good one Jim! I'd almost guess who recommended him for the FBI seminar and your comment about the Ehove deal,I think he done it for the extra retirement money,he definately looks out for one person. WOW, for a public employee wanting to find out about someone else so you can sling mud at them and make accusations? that's impressive!

I_wonder

Says the man using a screen name also. I know exactly how the process goes. As well as PELC, CLEE, and Northwestern. I haven't commented about your life but ask if Bond has done anything to improve himself professionally.

Being on a list to attend isn't an accomplishment. The region has sent over 18 officers in the last 10 years. Yes it is an impressive resume builder, once you complete it.

Pretty touchy there fella.

Car54

Hit the road jack ....ass. Is more like it !!
It's apparent you have a problem with people more educated and professional than you . An outspoken stand up guy that you are should walk up to Mr Bond and insult him to his face, but people like you hide behind comments made anonymously. You know nothing about the honor in being a Marine or a police officer and teacher. Derogatory comments from the ignorant ( like you) and the uninformed ( again like you) are what makes the comment sections of the paper a joke !!!

I_wonder

I really hope you aren't currently a police officer with your push button temper.
