A Norwalk woman accused of a dirty drug screen is being held without bond until her next hearing.

Samantha Reed, 21, of 15 Fruen St., stipulated Wednesday there is probable cause she violated her probation. Her merits hearing in Huron County Common Pleas Court is set for July 14.

"She tested positive for opiates. It doesn't appear to be her first positive test," Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Daivia Kasper said.

"She is aware of the allegations," Huron County Public Defender David Longo said.

Judge Jim Conway ordered Reed to be screened for possible acceptance into a community-based corrections facility. Defendants spend four to six months in a CBCF, a form of prison which focuses on substance abuse treatment and education.

"That doesn't mean that's what I'm going to do," Conway told Reed, referring to the resolution of the case.

Reed earlier was granted intervention in lieu of conviction and placed on probation. If she successfully completed a certified substance abuse program, she wouldn't have a conviction on her record.

In mid-April 2013, a Huron County grand jury indicted Reed on one count of trafficking in heroin. The fifth-degree felony, which is punishable by six to 12 months behind bars, is in connection with a Nov. 19, 2012 incident.

Reed also was arrested March 29, 2013 after a meth lab-related fire on Bouscay Avenue. Norwalk police were using search warrant related to the meth lab. She admitted to police that she also had been using meth.

Only in Norwalk can you test positive more than once while on probation, before they do anything..
