Huron County Public Defender David Longo was given time to file a motion to request a second mental evaluation for his client.

Blanche E. Myers, 54, of 602 Greenwich Milan Townline Road, is accused of attempting to stab a Huron County sheriff's deputy with a knife.

Huron County Common Pleas Judge Jim Conway, at a recent hearing, said he had reviewed the report from the District V Forensic Center and it appears Myers doesn't "have any mental defect or disability." As a result, the judge ruled there's no substantiation for Myers to enter a plea of "not guilty by reason of insanity."

If Longo doesn't file a motion for a second evaluation within a week, it means he will be stipulating to the report from the District V doctor.

"I find myself questioning some of the conclusions," Longo said without elaborating.

Myers is charged with felonious assault, which is punishable by three to 11 years in prison.

Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Daivia Kasper clarified the doctor's finding after Monday's hearing.

"At the time of the offense, she was aware of her conduct," Kasper said, adding that Myers also knew the danger and ramifications of what she did.

On Feb. 19, Deputy Steve Mancuso responded to Myers' residence for the report of a male subject who reportedly threatened to commit suicide with a knife or gun, but later determined that wasn't the case. The deputy then encountered Myers, who was in the roadway near the scene.

"Her actions were aggressive in nature," Detective Sgt. Josh Querin said soon afterward. "She told Deputy Mancuso she was going to kill him and began to charge at him."

Mancuso, who didn't get stabbed, used a stun gun on Myers, who was transported to Fisher-Titus Medical Center and then booked into the Huron County Jail. Prosecutor Russell Leffler, citing the deputy's report, has said Myers reportedly stated "several times she wanted to kill all of us pigs (and was) spitting at deputies."

Myers has been unable to post a $20,000 bond. Her new trial date is July 29.

If she tells Judge Conway that she's REALLY sorry and that her actions were due to a drug addiction, he'll just give her a slap on the wrist and send her on her merry way.
