Several drug defendants made their first appearances Monday in Huron County Common Pleas Court. Each person entered "not guilty" pleas to their respective charges.

Joseph C. Chaffee, 24, of 75 Norwood Ave., Apt. 1, faces four drug-related felonies. He is charged with two counts of possession of heroin in connection with incidents on Jan. 25 and 30. He also faces one charge each of possession of oxycodone and trafficking in heroin stemming from respective offenses on Jan. 25 and 30.

Chaffee, who earlier posted a $5,000 bond, has a trial date of Aug. 21. He told Judge Jim Conway he has a prior felony conviction, but he's not on probation now.

In a separate case, Kyle Barker, 25, of 1410 E. Ohio 113, Milan, has a trial date of Aug. 19 on one count each of possession of heroin and possession of criminal tools. Both charges are in connection with a March 27 incident.

Barker, whose local bond is $15,000, currently is in custody at the Erie County Jail, but it's unclear if he's on probation. According to jail records, he is charged with assault and forgery in connection with an investigation by the Perkins Township Police Department.

In a third case, Ethan W. Spiggle, 21, of Vickery, goes to trial Aug. 12 on one count of trafficking in oxycodone in connection with a Feb. 28 incident. Spiggle is out on a $5,000 bond with a 10-percent provision.

Each of the drug defendants are subject to random drug screens.

Also, Jamie R. Barnett, 22, of 208 1/2 Park St., Willard, is charged with receiving stolen property in connection with a Jan. 28 incident.

Barnett earlier posted 10 percent of a $5,000 bond and her trial date is Aug. 14. As a condition of bail, she is prohibited from being on the Willard victim's premises.
