A 20-year-old Ashtabula man faces murder and domestic violence charges in the death of Taisha Ramirez and her unborn child, authorities said.

Ramirez was eight months pregnant when she died Sunday morning, according to the Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office.

Marque Daquan Brown, of Ashtabula, was charged Tuesday with two counts of murder and felony domestic violence, City Solicitor Michael Franklin said.

Police believe Brown and Ramirez were boyfriend and girlfriend, according to reports.

Ramirez’s body has been sent to Cuyahoga County for an autopsy.

She was in the 10th grade at Lakeside High School, a school official said.

Police were first called to 922 W. 48th St. at about 5:50 a.m. Sunday for a domestic assault, according to police reports.

Brown, the suspect in the assault, was arrested and transported to the Ashtabula Justice Center, according to police reports.

Ramirez was treated for minor facial injuries and later released from Ashtabula County Medical Center, according to the coroner’s office.

A few hours later, paramedics were called back to 922 W. 48th St. because Ramirez was found unresponsive, according to the coroner’s reports.

She was transported by ambulance back to ACMC, where she was pronounced dead at 10:34 a.m., according to the coroner’s office.

Brown was arraigned Tuesday on the murder and domestic violence charges and is being held in the city jail on a $820,00 cash or surety bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for June 5, according to court records.

In the past, Brown has been convicted of criminal trespassing, court records show.

Ramirez’s autopsy results may take several days to get back to Ashtabula County because of the three-day holiday, a coroner’s Investigator said.
