Scout shares thoughts

Scouting is important to me because of the work and determination it takes to progress to this rank. Ever since I was little, I looked up to my brother who acquired this rank at 17 when I was 5 years of age. He has been a major role model in my life. Now that I have reached this status, I am looking to inspire other people to get this far. Even in Cub Scouts, it is fun. You progress and learn something new all the time.

You do not have to be in Cub Scouts to be an Eagle, however I did and feel it is important to start from the beginning. People who did start as Cub Scouts I have seen tend to make it as an Eagle more often. As you grow up and advance through Scouts, you get new friends.

During Boy Scouts you take merit badges that can inspire you in different ways. Some people take it even far enough to learn so much they may choose a certain badge as a career. Ranks also help you through the way, but ranks are more of scout skills. I have learned much from Scouts so far and am going to stay in Scouts through my last four years (till I'm 18) to expand my knowledge and learn more.

Boy Scouts has changed my life for the positive because it gives me something to do. It has grown to be a hobby for me. Now that I am done with my Eagle I am working on Palms which require three months in the troop and five additional merit badges. So far I have one and am waiting for my three months so I can reach my next Palm.

Palms eventually are hard to get because eventually merit badges get tough. In the beginning, you do easy ones that are simple. However as you progress you take harder ones that go more in depth.

I believe many kids should join Scouts because it can help you in your future. Being in Scouts and an Eagle shows leadership and determination because not many people have the opportunity to make it. It can help you get into a college, acquire a job, or even help you to become smart in your field of job. Without Scouts, my life would be changed and I am glad that I had inspiration and people to come with me and join me on my journey through Scouts.
