Huron County prosecutors sent cases involving a suspected bar brawl to Norwalk Municipal Court after a grand jury declined to issue felony charges.

The following suspects were charged with one first-degree misdemeanor count each of assault: Damarquis C. Brown, 31, of 206 Jefferson St.; Stephon O. Harkness, 25, of 10-A State St.; Stewart W. Harkness Jr., 31, whose address wasn't available; and Adewale A. Olaniyan, 37, of 56 Parsons St. The charges are in connection with a Feb. 9 incident at Bluto's Sports Bar & Grill in Norwalk.

Each of the defendants originally were charged with aggravated rioting, a fourth-degree felony, through municipal court.

Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler said authorities studied the video recording of the incident and determined "it was a simple bar fight." He also said Norwalk Assistant Law Director Scott Christophel "wasn't getting good cooperation from the alleged victim."

"The officer did a good job of investigating the case. He did a good job of tracking people down," Leffler said.

Law director Stuart O'Hara earlier told the Reflector how the suspected bar brawl happened.

"The victim and a friend went out to the patio to smoke. Three (suspects) and two others came out to the patio and ultimately got into a fight. They poured beer on him and physically hurt him," O'Hara said. "Another person joined in the melee."
