Norwalk's new front-end loader has arrived

Jeff Montgomery was all smiles at the city compost pile.

That's because the sanitation superintendent was operating the city's brand-new front-end loader. The new piece of equipment had arrived.

It replaced the 1988 front-end loader, which was traded in for $25,500.

The city paid $43,000 for the 1988 front-end loader. The new one was $98,000.
