A judge turned down the public defender's request to lower his client's $20,000 bond Monday. The woman is accused of attempting to stab a Huron County sheriff's deputy.

Blanche E. Myers, 54, of 602 Greenwich Milan Townline Road, is scheduled to stand trial May 6 in Huron County Common Pleas Court.

Huron County Public Defender David Longo requested the court consider reducing the defendant's bond.

Longo cited his client's lack of a felony conviction and being a local resident in saying he doubts Myers would be a flight risk. The public defender also said there's almost no chance his client could post $20,000.

In response, Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Daivia Kasper said Myers' bond was set at $75,000 when the case went through Norwalk Municipal Court.

"She attacked one of the sheriff's officers with a straight-edge knife," Kasper added.

Myers shook her head as the prosecutor spoke. She is charged with felonious assault in connection with a Feb. 19 incident. If convicted, she faces three to 11 years in prison.

After hearing from each attorney, Judge Jim Conway ruled that Myers' bond would remain $20,000.

On Feb. 19, Deputy Steve Mancuso responded to Myers' residence for the report of a male subject who reportedly threatened to commit suicide with a knife or gun, but later determined that wasn't the case.

Mancuso then encountered Myers, who was in the roadway near the scene.

"Her actions were aggressive in nature," Detective Sgt. Josh Querin said soon afterward. "She told Deputy Mancuso she was going to kill him and began to charge at him."

Mancuso used a stun gun on Myers, who was transported to Fisher-Titus Medical Center and then booked into the Huron County Jail.

Prosecutor Russell Leffler, citing the deputy's report, has said it doesn't appear Mancuso "actually got stabbed," but added that Myers said "several times she wanted to kill all of us pigs (and was) spitting at deputies."
