There were no injuries after a two-vehicle accident Monday on Ohio 61 just south of Berlin Heights.

Matthew C. Morris, 33, of 22 N. West Ave., Willard, was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance after he hit the rear of the van driven by Jerry L. Weeks, 22, of New Hampshire, Ohio.

The accident happened near the new Berlin Township garage about 10:30 a.m.

"There was a truck backing into the new township garage. The truck was dropping off or loading a backhoe," Berlin Heights Police Chief Charity Schafer said.

"The new township garage is going to be located behind the current fire station. ... The driveway is going to be south of the fire station," she added.

Before the collision, a worker had traffic stopped near the garage. There was a vehicle stopped ahead of the van driven by Weeks.

"Then the van stopped. Then Matthew Morris' vehicle hit the van," Schafer said.

The Toyota Corolla driven by Morris sustained heavy front-end damage. Bob's Auto Wrecking Inc. towed the car from the scene.

"To me, it looked like it was totaled," Schafer said.
