The body of the second missing boater whose vessel capsized on Friday in Buckeye Lake was recovered Monday afternoon.
Ohio Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Eileen Corson said the body of Jason Lewis, 61, of the East Side of Columbus, was located by rescue crews.
The body of Gary W. Cook, 62, of the Columbus North Side, was recovered on Friday. His name was released on Sunday.
They were fishing from a low-sided boat that capsized off Sellers Point near Millersport on Friday at about 12:30 p.m. The water temperature at the time was 43 degrees.
The boat capsized in three feet of water, Corson said.
Despite the shallow depth, the fishermen were in trouble because they were thrown into such cold water.
“It’s all about the water temperature. Your extremities, your arms and legs lose control,” as the body works to conserve heat in the core, Corson said. “Even the best swimmers in cold water get exhausted quickly. That’s why life jackets are so important.”
Neither boater wore a life jacket, she said.
