A Columbus man pleaded guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter in the death of his 90-year-old grandmother.

John C. Spindler, 41, was beating his 60-year-old mother, Pamela Haskins, when her mother, Annnarea McCray, tried to stop him. Spindler knocked McCray to the floor of the family’s home on Vilardo Lane, breaking her hip, Assistant Franklin County Prosecutor Jennifer Rausch said.

McCray developed pneumonia while recuperating in a rehabilitation center and died a week after the June 13 attack, Rausch said. County coroner Jan Gorniak ruled the death a homicide.

Spindler also pleaded guilty to felonious assault for attacking his mother, who required surgery for facial fractures.

The prosecution and defense are recommending a sentence of 17 years in prison as part of the plea agreement. Spindler is to be sentenced on April 17 by Common Pleas Judge Pat Sheeran.

how terrible.

How shameful and so sad

Wow what a tough guy. I hope he gets taken care of by good old fashion prison justice. I could never imagine hitting my mother or grandmother.
