"It's not my fault."

That's what defendant Mellanie B. Bath said in court Friday before Huron County Common Pleas Judge Jim Conway interrupted her. The judge said he didn't want her to talk about her case, but had simply asked her if she understood the felonies she was facing.

Bath, 50, of 80 Norwood Ave., Apt. 3C, is charged with six counts of forgery in connection with incidents on Dec. 19, 26 and 28 plus Jan. 9, 10 and 16. Each of the fifth-degree felonies is punishable by six to 12 months behind bars. Huron County Sheriff's Deputy Mitch Cawrse investigated the case.

The defendant, who earlier posted a $10,000 bond, has a trial date of June 26.

In a separate arraignment Friday, Emery R. Slone, 30, of 4039 Weirs Road, Willard, entered a "not guilty" plea to tampering with evidence in connection with an Oct. 15 incident.

"He is here on a summons," said Huron County Public Defender David Longo, who handled the proceeding.

Due to an unspecified conflict of interest with the public defender's office, the court assigned Sarah Nation to represent Slone.

The defendant remains out on a personal recognizance bond. That means Slone signed a court document in which he promised to appear for future hearings and didn't have to pay any money. His trial date is June 24.

swiss family

obviously Ms Bath has been paying attention, and knows that if you go before Judge Conway and cry and tell him it is somehow not your fault( I am not sure how forgery could not be your fault) he will let you off easy.. I actually commend the judge for once in showing who has the power in that situation, and reminds them that he is the Judge and he will allow them to speak and cry and carry on when HE decides it is time for that..I just wish he could stay so stern , and actually act like a judge once in awhile, instead of feeling so bad for the criminals all the time, and falling for their tricks, and giving them chance after chance only to be shown that all good criminals are also good liars... please Judge.. keep this new attitude.. it looks good on you..

only read the headlines, yet, somehow, i believe her..
