Two drug defendants and a theft suspect made their first appearances in court Wednesday and pleaded "not guilty" to their respective felonies.

Joshua A. Conley, 26, of Shiloh, is charged with theft from the elderly in connection with a July 17, 2012 incident. The defendant, who was released on a personal recognizance bond, is prohibited from having any association with the female victim. The PR bond means he signed a court document promising he would appear at future hearings and didn't have to pay any money.

Conley told Huron County Common Pleas Judge Jim Conway he has a prior felony conviction and is on probation through Ashland County.

"He's anticipating a (probation) violation," Huron County Public Defender David Longo told the judge.

Conley, whose trial date is June 3, is serving 17 months in prison for one count each of receiving stolen property and misuse of credit cards. The convictions are through Richland County. Prison records indicate Conley is set to be released May 21 from the Richland Correctional Institution.

In a separate case, Thomas M. Papp, 34, of 114 Benedict Ave., goes to trial May 15 on trafficking in oxycodone. The fourth-degree felony is in connection with a Sept. 9, 2012 incident. He goes to trial the same day on two counts of trafficking in oxycodone in connection with incidents on Aug. 8 and 9, 2012.

Papp, who was released on a PR bond, is subject to random drug screens.

His mother, Patricia Papp, 58, also of 114 Benedict Ave., has a June 5 trial date on trafficking in oxycodone in connection with a July 8, 2012 incident. Defense attorney Curtis Koch is representing her.

"The allegations appear to be similar," said Longo, who is representing Thomas Papp.

Patricia Papp also was released on a PR bond Wednesday. Because the defendant is taking medication for cancer, the judge didn't order Papp to undergo random drug screens.
