A California man is accused of arranging a sexual encounter with a Medina girl he met online.
Edwin Franco Rolffo-Zavala, 24, was arrested based on encounter earlier this year with a Medina patrolman who found him parked about 3 a.m. with the 14-year-old girl.
According to the FBI, Rolffo-Zavala said he was related to the girl. The child, however, told the officer she met him online nine months previously and that he had travelled from California to meet her.
Medina police and the FBI investigated the relationship more and uncovered transcripts and videos of chats showing Rolffo-Zavala was aware of the girl’s age, federal authorities said.
Federal charges were filed Friday, and FBI agents took Rolffo-Zavala into custody Monday on a charge of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
