A Butler County grand jury will consider felony charges levied against a Kentucky woman accused of stealing a taxi cab and assaulting two corrections officers.
Around 10:15 p.m. March 3, Middletown police were called to Marsh Supermarket, 621 N. University Blvd., to assist an employee of Cummings Taxi. Taxi driver Chris Gager called police after an intoxicated woman he was driving reportedly stole the taxi van during a stop, according to a police report.
Gager told police the woman — later identified as Tina R. Pike, 43, of Walton, Ky. — became belligerent during the drive and reached around the driver’s seat to grab his arm. The man said he had to pry her fingers off him.
The woman reportedly told Gager she didn’t have any money to pay him and then jumped into the front passenger seat, according to police reports. Gager pulled off into the Marsh parking lot to call his boss when Pike reportedly got into the driver’s seat and drove down University Boulevard.
Police later stopped the taxi after the driver was observed without a seat belt and failing to signal a turn. Police said Pike had a strong odor of alcohol, glassy bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was “extremely unsteady on her feet,” according to police report.
Pike reportedly refused all field sobriety tests and failed to give her name or personal information.
“While en route to the city jail, the female continued to scream and kick at (the officer’s) cruiser windows,” the police report states.
During the booking process at Middletown jail, Pike remained belligerent and later kicked one corrections officer in his ribs and and another in the elbow.
Pike is now in Butler County Jail after her charges were bound over to a Butler County grand jury during a March 12 hearing in Middletown Municipal Court.
She is being held on $27,000 bond for felony charges of grand theft, assault, two counts of assault on a corrections officer, driving while intoxicated- second offense in six years, driving under suspension and obstructing official business.
