Suspected DUI driver charged with child endangering

A Bellevue motorist accused of drunk driving reportedly had a 14-year-old child in his pickup truck.

Troy E. Dewitt, 38, of 608 E. Main St., was stopped for speeding by Trooper Evan Stevens, of the state Highway Patrol. The traffic stop happened at 6:46 p.m. Friday on Peru Center Road north of Townline Road 12 in New Haven Township.

Dewitt, who was clocking going 65 mph in a 55 mph zone, refused a breath test and had a 14-year-old child in the back seat of his 2007 Dodge truck, according to the trooper's report.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, speeding and child endangering.

Dewitt, whose defense attorney is Jeremiah Ray, has an April 1 pre-trial hearing scheduled in Norwalk Municipal Court.
