Emergency responders found two people dead Monday at a New State Road residence.

"We got a call about 9 a.m. that a family member was checking on her mom and dad and found them both passed away in the garage," Huron County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ted Patrick said.

Patrick said deputies secured the scene and notified the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Patrick said the deceased were Dr. Donald King and his wife, Lucille, who were both reported to be in their 80s.

"We investigate all deaths now as a homicide," Patrick said. "That's our standard policy.

"Both were found in the garage and the car had been turned on and the garage doors had been barricaded with a lawnmower and car," Patrick said.

"They both passed away from asphyxiation," he added.

"The fire department was on the scene with a carbon monoxide meter and noted carbon monoxide levels 10 times more than the human body can tolerate inside the garage and home," Patrick said.

Patrick said the Kings had last been seen two days ago.

A doctor of osteopathic medicine, King had a general practice in Norwalk. He received his medical degree from Des Moines University's College of Osteopathic Medicine in Iowa. King had 56 years of experience in the medical field.

Huron County Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Harwood could not be reached for comment Monday. Harwood rules on the official cause of death.

May this family find peace and comfort in the long days ahead.

Devastating. The King family is in my prayers.

So sad

Air Force 1

How sad, he delivered me & was my doctor untill I was in my 20's & his partner took over his office.

swiss family

how very sad.... my condolences to the Family and friends..

Just was thinking of him today. It was 41 years ago today that he delivered my first baby You know I had a long labor with him from Thursday night to Saturday morning and he stayed right there at FTMH, even sleeping on a couch in the doctors lounge while getting reports on me. When the nurses told him that I was finally ready, he was right there.
So sorry that his daughter had to find both parents. Praying for the family to be able to get through this most difficult time.

This is truly sad. Were they both ill and wanted to end it on their terms? My prayers go out to their family.

I can't even imagine how this family feels... It does make me think there was some TRUE TRUE LOVE... That this couple wanted to enter the gates of heaven hand in hand!!! My heart goes out to this family in time of sorrow... GOD BLESS YOU ;(

Suicide is a sin. Sinners don't go to heaven.

How sad to hear this. He was my grandmothers doctor. What a sense of humor he had! May they rest in peace.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the King family in this terrible hour. May the fond memories of 2 lifetime's spent doing good & great deeds, warm your hearts today, as well as in the difficult days to come.

@Ferball there is nothing in the Bible on suicide, other than so n so fell on his sword. But people do use the 6th commandment to try and make their point. But the big point is nothing is said specifically about suicide and ones destination. I wish the King family the best and send my heart felt condolences.

There is nothing specifically in the Bible about suicide, but we must repent, after a sin for cleansing of our soul to enter the kingdom of heaven. Take it how you will.

My sincere condolences to the King family and friends.

I really liked him.

It appears they were both in bad health, pre-planned their funerals and wanted to go out together. I hope the family comes to terms with this, and accepts their decision and finds peace with what they did to rest in peace together.

If this was the case it actually is a happy ending for them both. Almost like a fairy tail. They went together and chose their fate.

with all due respect, and not wanting to cause any arguing, but just because they pre-planned their funerals, and were not in great health, they were in their 80's after all.. it might be presumptuous to speak for them and say they wanted to "go out together"unless you were in their heads at the time, it is not fair to speak for them... unless you are family or a friend that they confided in...

Can you just hush for once! God!!

My family doctor from his time in practice until he retired. My family loved him and his great sense of humor. If you were really sick it was all business. May he and his wife rest in peace. So long Great Doctor !

Mr Spock

prayers for family how sad....RIP

He was my family doctor until his retirement. He took care of me during my first pregnancy, had to have a C-section. He took care of both my kids and my family. First met him through my grandmother. She had an appt. with him and I took her. He asked her "Who is this beautiful girl with you?" My grandmother introduced us. I was 18 at the time. When we were leaving, he told me to make sure my grandma took her medicine and that if I didn't he was going to kick my butt, then we all laughed. I decided then that when I needed a doctor I would go to him. He always made me laugh, even when I was in labor with my son. I have so many great memories of him and his office help. His daughter was my nurse in the hospital when I had my C-section. Condolences to his daughter.

As an 18 year old waitress at the L&K, I had tried a "sun-lamp" to acquire a winter tan. When I served him coffee at 6 a.m. as he was heading home from an all-nighter at Fisher-Titus, he took one look at me and wrote me a prescription for skin cream on a napkin. When I went to the drug store after my shift, they said "this has to be from Dr King". I also remember him coming into my room after the delivery of my fourth child and sitting in a rocking chair with the baby. He had just lost a patient in ICU and said he needed some time with a new life. Everyone who was his patient has many of these stories. I hope that our sharing can comfort his daughter.

Beautiful. And perfectly reflects the good doctor. My thoughts to his family.

They don't make Docs like this anymore, you can look, but you won't find one. One correction to the article: It is not true that they were last seen two days ago. They were diligently cared for daily by their daughter and a lifetime friend and dedicated former employee.

Our hearts are heavy. Our condolences to Debbie and her family.

I was blessed to have known him and that too, was my doctor for many years/family friend. I can still see him looking over top of his glasses at How bittersweet, yet heartwrenching this is. I know they have peace together:) And with Don Jr, he was my classmate thru school....
