Ohio voters favor medical pot

Poll: Half of Ohio voters also support same sex marriage.

A new poll shows broad support for legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes but Ohioans are more divided over gay marriage and abortion.

Quinnipiac University released a poll Monday that found 87 percent of Ohio voters support the use of medical marijuana, even though three out of four say they’d be uncomfortable riding with a driver who had used it, 47 percent say it is equally as dangerous as alcohol and 43 percent say it may lead to the use of other drugs.

Half of Ohio voters support same sex marriage while 44 percent oppose it, the poll found. Support is strongest among Democrats, women and younger voters.

Gay marriage advocates in Ohio are debating over whether to put the issue to voters in November or wait until 2016 when support may be more solid. Younger voters, who are more likely to turn out for a presidential election, will be key to whether Ohio would overturn its constitutional ban on gay marriage.

The poll found a significant generational divide over gay marriage and medical marijuana. Seventy-two percent of voters 18 to 29 years old support legalizing medical pot while 65 percent of those over 65 years old oppose it.

On same sex marriage, 71 percent of younger voters support it while 59 percent of those over 65 oppose it.

“Given that younger voters support same sex marriage almost 3-1, it would seem to be just a matter of time,” said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

When it comes to abortion, the poll found 53 percent of voters say it should be legal in all or most cases while 41 percent said it should be illegal in all or most cases.

Gov. John Kasich received a negative 26 — 34 percent score from voters for his handling of the abortion issue.

The poll was conducted over cell and land lines Feb. 12 to Feb. 17 with 1,370 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

Marriage is a religious ceremony and I don't recall same sex marriage being accepted anywhere in the Bible. Just saying.

You may want to read your Bible a little more carefully

Polygynous Marriage
Probably the most common form of marriage in the bible, it is where a man has more than one wife.
Levirate Marriage
When a woman was widowed without a son, it became the responsibility of the brother-in-law or a close male relative to take her in and impregnate her. If the resulting child was a son, he would be considered the heir of her late husband. See Ruth, and the story of Onan (Gen. 38:6-10).
A man, a woman and her property — a female slave
The famous “handmaiden” sketch, as preformed by Abraham (Gen. 16:1-6) and Jacob (Gen. 30:4-5).
A man, one or more wives, and some concubines
The definition of a concubine varies from culture to culture, but they tended to be live-in mistresses. Concubines were tied to their “husband,” but had a lower status than a wife. Their children were not usually heirs, so they were safe outlets for sex without risking the line of succession. To see how badly a concubine could be treated, see the famous story of the Levite and his concubine (Judges 19:1-30).
A male soldier and a female prisoner of war
Women could be taken as booty from a successful campaign and forced to become wives or concubines. Deuteronomy 21:11-14 describes the process.
A male rapist and his victim
Deuteronomy 22:28-29 describes how an unmarried woman who had been raped must marry her attacker.
A male and female slave
A female slave could be married to a male slave without consent, presumably to produce more slaves.
and of course …
Monogamous, heterosexual marriage
What you might think of as the standard form of marriage, provided you think of arranged marriages as the standard. Also remember that inter-faith or cross-ethnic marriage were forbidden for large chunks of biblical history.

Secondly upon divorce we are to stone you to death.

You by chance havent been divorced have you? If so we are supposed to put you down.

Just sayin

im divorced. i have been trying to stone myself to death since i got married, to no avail..

I'm sure some of these religious yahoos would do it for you. They do no wrong.

Ok but there is no same sex marriage. Like I said.

Leviticus 18:22
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

1 Timothy 1:9-10
Understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine

Marriage is a contract between god, husband and wife. The reason for marriage is for procreation without living in sin (sex before marriage).

I'm not a religious freak. I'm not a Christian, but I respect their belief.
Civil Unions would recognize them lawfully just as a married couple, but marriage is a religious union, people can't just pick and choose the parts they want in the Bible.

Just saying

I'm an atheist but i completely agree with you. Why cant we call it something else but still give the gay community the same percs as a married couple? I think this is the best for every party involved.

You are aware that the bible is filled with controdiction. Christianity is the biggest scam of modern civilization. This country wasn't built under god, it was built for freedom from oppression.

Continuing the decay of America and Ohio.

Thank you. This country was based on religion. Now our nation under GOD is fading fast with all these liberals coming up with ideas to mess up the human race as we know it...Or knew it

Marriage is only religious if you chose it to be. It is a civil contract. Also, if I don't believe in your god, why should I have to follow his rules? When you can prove he exists, and prove he wrote that silly book, then you can start pushing your sharia law on the rest of us.

"Also, if I don't believe in your god, why should I have to follow his rules?"

Exactly. The gays that want marriage aren't following gods rule, therefore it's a civil union, not a marriage.

Can you prove he doesn't exist?

Can anyone name a religion that is for homosexual marriage?

Thank you! I was just about to say, call it something else if you don't believe the same beliefs. Jmop said it first. So now argue that...I'm waiting. Like I was saying before, if you or your rainbow skipping friends want the same rights, fine, but don't call it something it's not.

think it's a big deal now, wait till all the gays get married then realize they are miserable just like the straights and start getting divorces.. Watch the Friggin' legal mess then.

Now they need to give people who are never married , or looking , or chooses to stay single the same rights. Those groups get overlooked a lot.

I thought gays are the people who always stand up and say they "They want Government out of there bedrooms, out of there lives, free to choose" why then do they want the government in the marriage business?? Marriage is religious from the word go.
A same sex couple do get anything a hetro can.
Tax breaks= argument for flat tax
Hospital visit= argument for patient request rights
Inheritance= argument for good will planning
etc. etc.
why do "they" have to impose on EVERYTHING??
"they" still WILL NOT get most people to like,
maybe accept,
but NEVER will be able to force most people to like!
So why are "people" always looking to the long arm of "government force" for rights.
When every other day they want people out of "there" business???
