The woman whose body was found early Friday after an apparent hit-skip crash has been identified as Theresa James.

Ms. James, 26, of East Hudson Street in North Toledo, was pronounced dead at the scene, at North Detroit Avenue and Willamont Road.

Toledo police Lt. Jeff Sulewski said a passerby called in a "person down" at about 3:25 a.m.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the woman in the roadway with pieces of what appeared to be a Ford vehicle, the lieutenant said.

Police said the driver was apparently heading southbound on Detroit when the driver struck Ms. James, who was in the road.

The lieutenant said there was standing water nearby which may have been why she was walking on the road and not the sidewalk.

There are no known witnesses; police will go back to look for possible surveillance footage.

Police ask that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at (419) 255-1111.
