Andrew Metz spoke at a benefit Saturday to raise money to cover his leukemia expenses.

"Under one roof, we've got people from many different parts of our life ... for a good cause. We would do the same for one another," the upbeat Milan resident. "It's an example of no matter what we see, and what negativity there is, that there's good in the world. This is what needs to be in the media and not all the bad crap."

Many people attended Saturday's benefit for Metz, a Milan Township firefighter and one-time member of the U.S. Air Force. Those in attendance were his friends, relatives, co-workers and members of the fire department.
