The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo attracted 1.12 million visitors last year, the 21st consecutive year it has drawn more than a million.
Attendance was down from 1.17 million the previous year. The zoo blamed the decline on a rain-laden summer. The attendance record for the zoo is 1.4 million in 1993, shortly after the opening of its RainForest exhibit.
Attendance last year peaked on Aug. 2 with 13,842 visitors and hit a low of 179 on Jan. 22, when the outside temperature was 11 degrees.
The zoo says it is Northeast Ohio’s most visited year-round attraction.
