Wakeman to save money through spring clean up change

WAKEMAN - The village would save about $1,100 through a spring clean-up program in which residents would haul their trash to a dumpster by village hall. Last year, the village paid more than $1,800 to pick up trash in front of each resident's home, councilman Dave Wilson said. Council voted unanimously Monday to set a tentative date of April 26 for the trash drop off. The change in the spring clean up has nothing to do with the weekly trash pick up, which residents pay for.

Mayor Chris Hipp touted the money saving.

Yes, it was a good meeting. But not many showed for it. Maybe it was the weather. No trash pickup for 'Spring Cleanup' shouldn't be that much of a problem. Many people own pickup trucks and can haul it to the dumpsters. Lets hope those with trucks will offer to help the ones that can't haul! This town needs to start working together instead of against each other!

Mona (Anonymous)

I'd be glad to help anyone in NEED of hauling things to the dumpster on that day. I have a couple trucks here that can haul about anything (household items). I realize we have elderly, handicap, or even single moms that do not have means of hauling larger items. Please let me know a few days ahead of time that you will need help.

Clean up: (Anon...

First, you have to have people 'willing' to clean up their yards! There are some in Wakeman that didn't even bother when we had curb side pickup. Then theres the ones that thinks everything they own is a gold mine.

GOOD THOUGHTS (...

I guess the Reflector isn't let us comment on the Hank story anymore. I have been excommunicated from blogging. Anyone else out there been blocked? Where's the freedom of speech?

Kudos to Mona! But I see you didn't post your phone number? Leave your contact at the local board at STerk's. Good for you, for wanting to help!

re Good Thought...

That blog is over. Usually after 14 days they shut it down. The Hanko one lasted alot longer than that!

Number? (Anonymous)

Her number is in the book, most people know her by her truck! New Dodge Ram 1500 (black) with 'Redneck' and 'Confederate Flags' all over it w/ testicles hanging under her bumper!! Theres no mistaken who she is!

re Good Thought...

No need for kudos, but thank you. I'd be glad to help anyone in need. I'd want someone to help my parents when they are no longer able to do what needs to be done. I know it can be rough on a single mom with just a compact car in her driveway. As for those that don't want to clean up, well you can lead a horse to water.....

The PD has my number, Mayor Hipp has it also. My husband is in Sterk's nearly every morning. Most folks in this town know me. I'd rather not publish my number on the web. Like I said, give me a call a few days in advance if you can, I'll be glad to help those in need!

re Kudo's to Mo...

But leaving her number on Sterk's board ain't such a good idea. Hard to tell who would call her!

Helping Folks O...

How about it folks, anybody else out there that can help their neighbors out? It's only one day of your time to help out your neighbors in need, and you'd be helping out the Villge also. We can save this town some serious cash if we all can work together to make this happen.

single mom (Ano...

hey mona, i'm one of those single moms with the little car that you're talking about. I really don't have any family, well, any that are willing to help that is, it's just me and the kids..... It's very thoughtful of you to offer. I have a lot of tree branches in my yard from all the windy weather. Can the branches be thrown in the dumpster they are speaking of? I would leave my email on here, but that kinda scares me, ya know? I just moved to Wakeman and all the stuff I have been reading on these posts scares me to leave my real name I don't want to be the subject of someone's anger or gossip (Lord knows I've done some stupid things). I was really excited to move here then I started reading some of the stuff people posted and WOW......

Trash Pick up: ...

This trash bin being at Villiage Hall isn't final yet. Has to be voted on by council. But, if it saves Wakeman that much money, then they should do it that way. Wakeman can use that savings for another project. There is so much needed and wanted for this town. Sewers is a biggy, new lighting is another, play ground equipt. for the park is another. Alot of this stuff the labor can be done by towns people. We don't have to hire out for it, if we can get volunteers to help with the labor part. If we use all our resources, the only money going out would be for supplies! Thats what we need people! Pull together and help each other!!

To Single Mom.....

Here's an email address you can reach me at. angelic_62@msn.com Remind me a few days prior, and I'll be glad to help you. As far as some of the folks posting on these newspaper blogs....they really are harmless, they're easily excited. Most mean no harm, they just get carried away with the passion they feel for gossip. LOL! Get to know your neighbors, generally speaking, Wakeman is full of good folks! I've lived in this town 13 years, and have no regrets moving here from Lorain. Besides, there's nothing wrong with a little bit of scandalous gossip....Mona

thanks mona.....

i'll be contacting you soon :)

now this is the Wakeman spirit that i thought was alive out there.. people willing to help each other, expecting nothing in return...thank you for restoring alittle bit of faith in human kindness again.. and i guess the strenght of the "small town friendliness" is alive and well!!

i aplaud the council people in wakeman for trying to save the taxpayers money, by thinking of ways to really cut their expenses!! i admire any town who doesn't just spend their money foolishly, year after year.. and really tries to get better results than before, but by spending less money as well

it reminds me of a guy that i know , in Norwalk who went to the Mayor(not this Mayor) and suggested that instead of the city sending out a city dump truck , after christmas, to pick up the used trees, and then taking them to wherever, to grind them up.. which is the system that Norwalk has used for years..causing the workers alot of sore muscles, throwing those heavy trees on and off of the trucks, and actually wasting alot of time and effort, this guy went to the Mayor and suggested that they send around the wood chipper, and a truck to catch the chipping in , around, so it would consolidate their work, and make it lighter work, and make it possible to put more trees on the truck at a time!! but i'm sorry to say that the Mayor at that time basically laughed in his face.. and never even considered that possibility... that, to me is pathetic

so, i applaud Wakeman for doing what they can. and trying to get the job done, and also saving money

Saving money (A...

Wow - with all that money they will save on this the Village Clerk will probably get another raise! For being part-time she sure gets a lot of hours. Maybe someone should check into that and save the village more money.

Keep up the great work Mayor Hipp!

re saving money...

I douby if the village clerk makes much to begin with. Maybe some of her hours are volunteer, ever think of that? The money the village saves on the spring cleanup can be used for another project. Sounds to me like your a tad bit jealous. What's wrong, she beat you out of a job? If you don't like the village clerk, maybe you should keep your mouth shut unless she's crossing your path!

What's wrong wi...

Get off Trish...she does a good job for this town, maybe if those of you that think otherwise should have applied for her position. Her job is basically a thankless job. If what she does, doesn't get done, the place would fall apart. This blog was about trying to save this town some money and people helping other people. Get back to being decent neighbors.

Single mom, I'll be glad to give you a hand, just remind me when the time gets here.

For the rest of you able bodied people, get off your butts and help a neighbor in need. There may be a day when you'll need help....Mona

That's boo hoo. Good thing you didn't get that job.

re bo ho: (Anon...

How do you know what she gets? Your a stupid HAG!!

MaBarker

Yep, we'll see who's running their mouths now. Register and sign in please! LOL

DEAR ABBE

I'm glad they've done this actually. Wakeman is a great little village, with many great folks. Just a few can ruin a good thing. Way to go Reflector!

swiss family

i applaud Wakemans efforts to save the citizens some money.. it is such a rare thing in todays world, it seems like most government offices spend our money as if there is no accountability..

it makes me sick to see the federal govt spending trillions of dollars of our money each week, on a war that the majority of Americans don't support anyway!!and on a smaller scale, i still have a big problem with the way that the Norwalk govt. spent a wasted $10,000.00 on a study for a new firestation.. what did we learn from this spent money?? that we needed a new station, and that the current location is ideal, and that we need to make it co ed friendly.. ... all of which we already knew anyway.. so i think that once again they are spending our money foolishly..that money would have been better spent on making improvements to the old station, even if its a temporary fix.. until we can finance and build a new one.. possibly at the Giant Eagle location..or do we need to spend more money to see if that would be a suitable and convienent location for the new station.. ???

Didn't someone get on here a month ago slamming our WPD? Then continue to add that Key Bank in Cleveland has their own police dept! The downtown bank was robbed this morning at 10 a.m. Hmmmmm......where were those 'Private Key Bank Police' when that happened? OMG! Is there a Dunkin Donuts near there? That could explain it!!

MaBarker

NO Johnathan, they will find a way to still do that. Tell your mother I said Hello!!
