A Norwalk woman will be sentenced March 13 for stabbing her brother, who suffered a punctured lung.
Katelyn N. Taylor, 18, pleaded guilty Tuesday to an amended charge of attempted felonious assault. She faces nine months to three years in prison on the third-degree felony.
"The family doesn't want her to go to prison," Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler said after the hearing.
The stabbing happened Nov. 11 after a reported domestic dispute. Norwalk Police Detective Sgt. Jim Fulton investigated the case with Sgt. Seth Fry.
"I don't know what the fight was over," Leffler said.
During the dispute, the mother took a child out of the home, Leffler said, because Taylor was acting bizarrely, there was some yelling and the mother didn't know who might be in harm's way.
North Central EMS transported the victim to Fisher-Titus Medical Center.
Taylor was arrested after police, the Norwalk Fire Department and North Central EMS responded to her apartment about a male victim who had been stabbed. Police found the 20-year-old victim inside the Old State Road residence.
"(He) was alone when officers arrived and refused to tell the officers who stabbed him," Fulton said soon after the incident.
During the investigation, police contacted Taylor.
"During an interview with Katelyn, she displayed signs of deception and a small amount of blood was observed on her sweatshirt. Katelyn was detained and it was later learned she had stabbed (her brother) with a kitchen knife," Fulton said.
Taylor originally said another female suspect stabbed her brother. However, Leffler said when the victim suspected he might die, "that's when he revealed the sister did it."
The victim survived and has been released from the hospital.
Police obtained a search warrant and recovered the knife inside Taylor's apartment and seized an article of clothing reportedly worn by the victim when he was stabbed.
Taylor has been unable to post a $25,000 bond.
"I think she has some issues," Leffler said Tuesday about the defendant.
She is prohibited from having any contact with her brother if she posts bail.
