An Erie County sheriff's detective is searching for a 63-year-old male suspect accused of having sexual conduct with a teenage relative.
"It's in the beginning stage of the investigation," Detective Sgt. Dennis Papineau said Thursday.
The suspected victim is a 16-year-old girl.
"She actually lives in Lorain County, but this occurred at her grandmother's house in Florence Township," Papineau said. "This happened when she was between the ages of 7 and 12."
The girl reported the allegations to her mother.
"She came to the station (Tuesday) and filed a report," Papineau said, referring to the mother.
The detective interviewed the girl, her mother and grandmother. However, he hasn't been able to find the 63-year-old suspect.
"The grandmother confronted him and he left the residence. ... My intention was to interview him, so I talked to the grandmother," Papineau said.
The detective said the grandmother "was completely surprised" by the girl's allegations and said she hadn't seen anything inappropriate between the girl and the man. However, when she heard information from the girl, Papineau said the grandmother was able to corroborate those statements.
"I believe the juvenile was being completely truthful with the information she gave me," Papineau said.
The detective said the grandmother hasn't heard from the suspect since he left and the phone number he had for the man didn't take any messages.
"We have not been able to find him," Papineau said.
