An elderly Greenwich man admitted Tuesday to inappropriately touching a teenage female relative.

Robert E. Shultz, 81, of 11 W. Union St., pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. According to Huron County Common Pleas Court records, the third-degree felony happened between Nov. 1, 2012 and Jan. 31.

When Shultz is sentenced Feb. 27, he faces one to five years in prison. The conviction means once he is released, he will have to register his address with the Huron County Sheriff's Office every six months for the next 25 years. Shultz will be prohibited from living within 1,000 feet of a school, preschool or daycare center.

As part of a plea deal Tuesday, Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler agreed to dismiss two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and one charge of sexual battery.

Leffler said the state stands behind the videotaped interview between Shultz and police that was shown to the court during a hearing about defense attorney James Joel Sitterly's motion to suppress evidence. In November, Greenwich Police Officer Aaron Smith testified about a nearly 31-minute-long interview he did with Shultz at the police station April 5 in which he admitted he inappropriately touched a 15-year-old Richland County girl, Shultz's relative.

Shultz, during the interview, first denied having anything to do with the girl, but later said he touched her -- possibly with small, wood sticks or dowels he kept in his garage.

"She has shown me her underwear and stuff," he told the officer. "She showed me hers. ... She took down her pants."

At Tuesday's hearing, Judge Jim Conway asked Shultz if the interview was an "accurate representation" of what he told the officer. Shultz said it was, but he claimed he couldn't "remember most of what was said."

Police began investigating the case after Richland County Children Services contacted Chief Steve Dorsey in April. The girl has reported having sexual conduct with two men, one of whom is a 76-year-old Ashland County suspect. The Richland County Sheriff's Office is handling the other case.

Not excusing any inappropriate behavior...but I don't understand that...15 yr old admitted having sexual contact with two men?

I agree onegirlarmy. This old chimer deserves to do some time but I question the thought process of a 15 year old girl that shows senior citizens her flaps.

"...possibly with small, wood sticks or dowels he kept in his garage." But at least it wasn't with his woody. :)

HOLD ON ... if you read the story, this account of what happened is being told by this man, to the Police Officer.. so when he says... "she showed me her underwear" first of all, that might be a lie... and secondly , he might not be telling the entire story... as sick as he seems to be, he could have been taunting her saying things like "you must not be wearing anything under your pants" and she might have showed him the top of the elastic waist band, which is still considered underwear. Plus.. this is coming from him, the pedophile, of course he is going to try to blame his inappropriate actions on something his victim did...SHE is a victim here, he is more and way past the age of being an adult, and she is a minor, and as such can not sign contracts or give any consent for inappropriate sexual actions.. that should be the adult who knows better... Obviously he knows better, but decided to break the law... he is probably assuming, like I am as well, that the courts will go easy on him, and not make him do any actual prison time, like he deserves, because he is an old man.... yea he is old... but he is a dirty old man and needs to be accountable for his actions.... and she was a relative.. he is ONE SICK PUP... and needs to be gone for a good long my opinion

swiss - this is not pedophilia - definition linked:

Sarrak... you mare right and I apologize for being wrong here... and I am positive that he waited until this relative was 15 before he ever did anything inappropriate with her or any other mistake

This man happens to be an old neighbor... From day one we all thought he was a bit off.. When his "relative" was around he was much different then he was any other time.. Like he was possessive over this child...
I agree with you 100% swiss family he is a sick old man who is probably trying to make himself look even the slightest bit better.. Knowing that given his age and the fact he is an adult he knew exactly what he was doing, and knew it was wrong. This child may have been 15 when all this came out, but lets not be so quick to claim that a child cant be right on this... It does happen (everyday in fact) he needs to spend the rest of what ever life he has left behind bars..

I don't know if I believe this story or not. At fifteen, I would have been well aware of what was going on. Even if a man had given me $100, I would not have shown him my underwear. If he was an old man, I would have smacked his hand away or something. At 81, (even younger) he might be in the early stages of an age related mental health issue. I remember when my grandfather was 72 and had the onset of Alzheimers (sp?). One time I was trying to feed him and he grabbed my hand and tried to get me to touch him. Of course I was mature enough to know that this wasn't my grandfather doing this.

Inquiring" are you saying that IF he has any form of dementia then he really is not guilty???? sorry.. he seems pretty coherent in the police interview, so I think he should be given the MAX punishment, especially since it was a relative, I would say that he has been Prepping her for a very long time, and probably has been inappropriate many many times, over many many years.... give this dirty old pedafile the MAX in my opinion

swiss - again this is not a pedophile

Swiss has pedophile on the brain.
