One dad, three kids, lots of snow, and 20 hours of work in single-digit temperatures produced one impressive igloo Monday in the Ohio community of Geneva.

Alex Tapia and three of his children, Alison, Tony, and Terence, completed an igloo that has a ceiling height of 6 feet, 8 inches on Monday afternoon. Tapia said his wife, Carolyn, helped by heating water to solidify the snow blocks as he made them. He said his block maker produces four blocks at a time.

“Last year I made two of them, smaller ones, but this is the biggest I’ve ever made,” he said. “It’s just quality time for my family. All of the snow from the neighbor’s driveway and our driveway is what makes up the igloo.”

The igloo, complete with carpeting in the entrance “so you don’t get your knees wet,” is situated in the Tapia family’s front yard on East Main Street next to Catherine’s Christmas. Alison, 17, said, “I had a great time building it with my dad and brothers.”

Tapia said, “If it’s nice again in a couple of days, keep an eye out — there will be more out there!”
