A Main Avenue pizza shop in Ashtabula was robbed at gunpoint Thursday night.
It happened at 9:08 p.m. at Luigi’s Pizza, 5345 Main Ave., according to police reports.
A lone suspect entered the business brandishing a pistol and demanded money.
“He was wearing a bandana, hoodie and sunglasses,” store manager Tony Hernandez said. “He pulled out a gun and said, ‘I’m giving you 30 seconds to give me all your money.’”
The suspect then started counting, he said.
He fled the store on foot with an undetermined amount of cash. He was last seen running west on West 54th Street, Hernandez said.
Three employees present at the time of the robbery were unharmed, but the incident has Hernandez shook up.
“It’s getting real bad in Ashtabula,” he said. “I don’t want anybody killed.”
Luigi’s Pizza isn’t the first business in the West 58th Street/ Main Avenue area to be robbed at gunpoint this week.
Police are searching for the suspect in Monday night’s armed robbery of Dominos Pizza, 5805 Main Ave.
No one was injured.
In November, an armed robber got away with an undisclosed amount of cash after waving a gun at a clerk at Ashtabula Little Caesars, 1245 W. Prospect Road.
The store’s surveillance camera caught an image of the robber, a male wearing a dark hoodie, as he pointed a silver semi-automatic handgun at the clerk and demanded money, police said.
The robber then left the store through the back door.
In October, a pizza delivery driver reported he was robbed at gunpoint after attempting to make a delivery to a vacant house in the 3100 block of Johnston Court, according to Ashtabula Police Department reports.
A Pizza Hut employee was delivering a pizza when a man in dark clothing approached him with what appeared to be a gun. He took the pizza and the money. The driver was not injured and the suspect fled on foot, reports showed.
Hernandez said he sees a pattern forming and it’s a dangerous pattern.
Ashtabula also has seen its share of bank robberies in the past two months — two at the U.S. Bank on Park Avenue in the city and one at the Key Bank on State Road in Ashtabula Township.
