A motorist died Saturday after suffering a heart attack and crashing his car on Darrow Road.
James L. Rundell, 65, of Vermilion, was driving a 2013 Ford Escape west on Darrow Road, west of Risden Road, in Vermilion Township at 1 p.m. when he suffered a heart attack, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol.
Rundell was unresponsive at the scene and transported to Lorain Mercy Hospital by Vermilion Township EMS, troopers said. After arriving at the hospital, he died due to the heart attack, according to medical personnel.
The Ford Escape sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene by Fast Times towing.
The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Erie County Sheriff's Office, Vermilion Fire and EMS.
Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, troopers said.
