An area woman was killed early Thursday in a traffic accident north of Shelby.
Kimberly R. Welch, 22, of Shelby, was driving a 1997 Honda Accord north on Ohio 61 at 5:30 a.m. when her vehicle slid left of center on the icy roadway and collided head-on with a southbound 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by William A. Funk, 58, of Willard, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol's Mansfield post.
Welch was pronounced dead at the scene by the Richland County Coroner's Office.
Funk was taken to MedCentral Shelby Hospital. He suffered several injuries and was initially listed in critical but stable condition. He was released from that hospital later in the day, a hospital spokesperson said.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The crash remains under investigation by the state patrol's Mansfield post and the Ohio State Patrol Reconstruction Unit.
