City, county crews battling potholes

Crews hope pothole patch mix will last until spring.

The weather this winter has wreaked havoc on city and county roads.

"It's not going to be a good winter," said Carl Essex, Huron County highway department spokesman, referring to the freezing and thawing and the lack of consistent cold temperatures. "That cold and then warm was interspersed with snow and rain."

Crews will follow the normal plow routes, filling potholes.

"We make a pothole patch mix in August and keep it in storage for the winter," Essex said. "We hope that gets us through until the spring."
