A local driver with seven prior drunken driving convictions hit the front of a Norwalk police officer's vehicle in connection with a recent drunken driving-related traffic stop.
Anthony C. Harkness, 51, of 7 Adams St., was charged with a felony DUI plus improper backing, driving with a suspended license and a seatbelt violation. The charges are in connection with a Nov. 26 traffic stop investigated by the state Highway Patrol.
Norwalk Police Capt. Eric Hipp initiated a traffic stop at 8:11 p.m. on Newton Street near Ohio 61. Troopers said Harkness pulled into a private driveway, went off the left side while backing up and hit the left front of Hipp's vehicle. There were no injuries.
Harkness took a breath test and his blood-alcohol content level tested at .140 percent, troopers said. The legal limit for drivers in Ohio is .08 percent.
