A woman trying to help two stray dogs along the roadway was struck by a car Tuesday evening.

Laura L. Reed, 58, of Celina, was flown to a hospital in Dayton following the accident. Information on her condition was not available this morning.

The accident happened at 6:41 p.m. on Clover Four Road in Franklin Township. Reed stopped her pickup truck in the eastbound lane, east of Guadalupe Road, after seeing the dogs. She was attempted to corral the two dogs that were on the road, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said in a press release.

Reed gathered one dog and was standing near the north side of the roadway in the westbound lane when she was struck by a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Kevin Schwieterman, of Coldwater, Grey said.

Two other people had stopped to see what Reed was doing when they witnessed the accident. One was a Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputy, Barry Niekamp, and the other was a 17-year-old boy, Grey said.

Alcohol was not a factor. The incident remains under investigation, Grey said.

How sad. Poor lady was trying to do the right thing. :(

Dumb B.

Lol......real life frogger.

I would have felt bad if she was saving a kid, but not some dogs. I like my dogs enough for that, not strange dogs.
