Man punished for cocaine found during traffic stop

'(It was) just a stupid mistake'

A Plymouth man's probation officer has the discretion of imposing a 90-day jail term that a judge imposed Wednesday.

George A. Green, 39, of 153 Beelman St., also was fined $500 as part of three years of probation. He had his driver's license suspended for six months.

Green, in early October, pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine during an April 12 traffic stop on Ohio 598 in New Haven. Huron County Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Josh Querin said he pulled over the vehicle because "the tail light was busted, causing white light to emit from the vehicle" and found 1 grams of cocaine during a consent search.

"(It was) just a stupid mistake I'm here to take responsibility for it," Green said Wednesday.

At the time of the traffic stop, the defendant was out on bond pending a felony conviction through Richland County for receiving stolen property. Huron County Public Defender David Longo said Green is doing "fairly well" on community control sanctions.

When Green pleaded guilty Oct. 3, the state agreed not to pursue a failure-to-appear charge. He failed to come to court for his final pretrial hearing.

If Green violates the terms of his probation, he faces one year in prison.
