No citation was issued Wednesday after Wilbert Burrell, 58, of Stamford, Conn., backed up and hit the vehicle driven by Timothy D. Mathis, 37, of Bruce, Miss., who was stuck in the mud near the U.S. 20 westbound lanes.

Helen J. Keene, 73, of 3 West Ave., Willard, hit a deer Wednesday on Peru Center Road.

The following people hit deer Thursday: Thomas L. Root, 53, of 2 Wedgewood Drive, on Ridge Road; and Christine I. May, 51, of Clyde, on U.S. 20.

The following people hit deer Friday: Roger L. Donnamiller, 49, of 1673 Niver Road, Willard, on Walnut Road; and Kathleen S. Stoll, 40, of 12 E. Church St., Milan, on Old State Road.

Daniel J. Johnson, 19, of 3651 New State Road, Willard, was charged with failure to yield from a private driveway in the collision Friday with the vehicle driven by Lucie A. Priddy, 18, of 3321 Rome Greenwich Road, Greenwich, at the intersection of U.S. 224 and Ohio 61.

Jeffrey C. Correll, 24, of 15C W. Washburn St., New London, hit a deer Saturday on U.S. 20.

NORWALK FIRE

Responded to a chimney fire and used the owner's hose to extinguish an open flame in the floor joist and subfloor at 12:17 a.m. Monday at 183 Fairway Circle. The fire, which did about $2,000 worth of damage, was caused by embers from the fireplace dropping down into the clean-out, which was open and exposed to wood. Firefighters gave the owner two smoke detectors for the basement. Returned to station at 1:50.

Assisted North Central EMS with a patient at 4:21 a.m. Monday at 23 Parsons St. Returned to station at 4:58.

NORWALK POLICE

An employee of a Benedict Avenue business reported the theft of $34.02 in gasoline Wednesday. Police forwarded a report to the Norwalk Law Director's Office for the consideration of charges.

A West Washington Street resident reported the theft of his Nokia cell phone from his unlocked pickup truck Friday. Police later arrested the main suspect, Adam Weiner, 21, of 137 N. West St., on vehicle trespassing and two counts of criminal trespassing after several witnesses accused him of going through vehicles several houses west of the West Washington Street incident. Weiner is serving a 90-day jail sentence on domestic violence.

An area resident turned in about 95 pieces of ammunition Friday that was turned over to a sergeant to be destroyed.

Apprehended a 7-year-old State Street boy Friday in connection with attacking several neighborhood children with a hand saw. Police contacted juvenile probation officers and Huron County Children's Services whose officials requested the boy be evaluated at Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

A West Seminary Street resident reported the theft of her Motorola cell phone Friday.

Tod E. Ganzhorn, 42, of 31B E. Washington St., was arrested on 13 contempt of court warrants Saturday on various original charges. He is serving a 40-day sentence at the Huron County Jail.

Megan R. Wiseman, 18, of 185 W. Main St.; James A. Hopson, 20, of 26 Pitt St.; Aaron D. Wiseman, 20, of 200 Benedict Ave.; Benilda Sepeda, 30, of 66 S. Main St., Monroeville; and Justin R. Faulkner, 21, of 185 W. Main St., Lot 12; all were charged with various offenses in connection with a West Main Street incident Saturday.
