A man who stole nearly $1,700 in electronic equipment from the Norwalk Walmart was sentenced to six months in prison Wednesday.

The theft conviction for Jeffrey A. Guilliams, 41, of Akron, is for an incident that happened early April 21. The prison sentence was a joint recommendation of Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Richard Woodruff and defense attorney Tom Freeman.

Guilliams and a male co-defendant left Walmart through the lawn and garden section with a shopping cart containing two speakers and other electronic equipment, Woodruff said. The incident was caught on surveillance video footage.

The defendant must pay about $1,672 in restitution to Walmart. The court credited Guilliams with being in the Huron County Jail since Sept. 4.
