A Norwalk driver is serving a 48-day jail sentence for a host of charges related to a drunk-driving crash.
Yimmi S. Lopez-Mendez, 22, of 103 Jefferson St., Lot 49, was stopped by Sgt. Tony Myers, of the state Highway Patrol, at 9:48 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Benedict Avenue and Hickory Street. The trooper reported the man had a breath test of .222 -- almost three times the legal limit of .08 for drivers in Ohio -- and was convicted of driving under the influence this year.
Lopez-Mendez was charged with DUI, no driver's license/DUI license suspension, a child restraint violation, left of center and child endangering. No information was available about the age of the child in the vehicle and the relationship to the suspect.
The defendant entered a "no contest" plea Monday to child endangering and the DUI license suspension. Lopez-Mendez is serving 45 days for child endangering and another three days for the suspension, according to Huron County Jail records.
